Series Spotlight: The Red Petticoat Saloon ~ Part 4

Part four of a five part series.

I was thrilled to be invited to participate in the Red Petticoat Saloon Series. My publisher, Blushing Books, is known for hot historicals and westerns so it was no surprise that the hottest D/s series of the year are Jewel’s Gems and the dominant men who love them.

13843437_634383540060770_2077948506_oGet the 411 on the Red Petticoat Saloon:

  • Set in the Culpepper Cove, California high in the Sierras in the 1850 gold rush.
  • The series follows Madam Jewel and her entire stable of high-paid call-girls who take their job of keeping the men of Culpepper Cove happy seriously.
  • You’ll adore watching each ‘gem’ find their happily ever after.
  • Best of all, each book can be read as a stand-alone and do not need to be read in order.
  • Like previous successful Blushing series like Corbin’s Bend, many of the characters you fall in love with stay in town and appear in future stories.

We’ve been counting down to my release on 8/24 by highlighting the ten books that are already out and available.  Of course I’ve read them all and can’t wait to share them with you.

Book Seven:

51FiLOsIDsL._SY346_Pearl’s Possession by Lee Savino

Blurb:

Five husbands; one Possessed Pearl.

When Pearl starts working as a gem at The Red Petticoat saloon, she knows she’s found the place where she belongs. After all, her husband cast her out for being too lusty of a wife. She quickly comes to enjoy her clients, especially her five constant regulars, so much so, that when one of her regulars proposes marriage, she declines. How can one man satisfy her?

Things change when all five of her regulars come to her with a marriage proposal—live with them as a bride to five husbands.

Can Pearl face her fear of marriage and allow herself to be claimed by not one man, but five?

Livia’s Note: Lee Savino is the queen of menage and in this case Pearl took on not one or two husbands, but FIVE.  This book was brimming with smoking hot sex scenes and men who love to take care of their gem.  It was a guilty pleasure read to be sure.

Book Eight:

51bQ+xThc5LJade’s Dragon by Maren Smith

Blurb:

Cast out of China, Chin knows all about how hard life in a foreign country can be, especially for a woman on her own. Given the name Jade and a job packing in the crowd as an exotic dancer at the Red Petticoat, Chin thinks she’s finally carved a safe and secure place for herself when, looking out across the dance hall, she spies the son of the man who murdered her family. Panicking, she flees into the night, into the worst storm in living memory.

Struggling on a failing ranch, neither Cullen Drake nor his brother Garrett has any idea how to combat the illness ravaging their herd. But the night Cullen finds himself slogging after sick cows during the worst storm in California’s history, he happens to be in the right place at the right time. At first, he thinks it’s a child he’s rescued from a flashflood. It’s not until he gets her home that he realizes Chin is every inch a woman grown… and a woman on the run.

Chin knows better than anyone the risks of staying too long in one place or letting people get too close. Yet the harder she tries to escape, the worse off she becomes until finally, sick and wounded, she finds herself unable to run. Her past is closing in, but Cullen has a past of his own and a fearsome determination to protect, whether she wants him to or not. Having been a bad man once himself, he knows he can handle whatever—or whoever—has Chin so afraid. Unfortunately for her, he also knows how to handle young ladies more interested in running than behaving.

Livia’s Note: Maren Smith never disappoints.  Jade is not your average heroine by any means. She is one tough cookie and I even found myself shouting at her to trust Cullen sooner.  I can’t wait until Cullen’s brother gets his own story. You’ll love this book!

You can find a copy of Jade’s Dragon here.

Book Five:

His Sweet Amber by Sue Lyndon511at3dInQL

Blurb:

Having known nothing but heartbreak and betrayal in Culpepper Cove, Callie Smith seeks refuge at The Red Petticoat Saloon. To the young widow’s utter shock, on her first night working upstairs, former love interest Pastor Lawrence Black bids an ungodly amount of money for an evening with her. After his dominant lovemaking leaves her breathless, he stuns her with a marriage proposal. But how can a soiled dove become a pastor’s wife? Despite her stubborn refusal, he insists she’s become his wife-in-truth and returns night after night, not allowing any other men to touch her.

As time goes on, Callie finds it increasingly difficult to ignore her growing feelings for the stern but kind, handsome widower who issues firm commands in the bedroom and doesn’t hesitate to spank her bare bottom when she disobeys. Truth is, she’d be proud to call Lawrence her husband, but surely her reputation would hinder his calling to become the town pastor. Will he succeed in convincing Callie she’s meant to be his wife?

Livia’s Note:  I adored this story.  Before I started reading, I wasn’t sure how the pastor would end up with a gem, but Sue Lyndon weaved an awesome story with deep characterization and back story for both Callie and Lawrence.  I loved this couple and was so happy they got to make several appearances in Melting Silver.

Book Six:

Caring for Citrine by Alta Hensley513mlz7LQeL

Blurb:

A captivating new standalone novel in The Red Petticoat Saloon Series from USA Today bestselling author Alta Hensley…

Sickly. A whore. On her own.

That is how Della would describe herself, or did until she became a gem at The Red Petticoat Saloon. Still sickly, and still a whore, at least she wasn’t on her own any longer. She had become Citrine, one of Jewel’s gems, and she wore the name proudly.

It wasn’t until she became deathly ill that she realized just how much people truly cared about her. She had her friends at The Red Petticoat, and she soon had the care of the town doctor—Dr. Anson Norwood.

Dr. Norwood promises her that he will fix all that is wrong with his patient and treat her like the gem she truly is. But will the shadows of her past, as well as the ones of Anson Norwood, get in the way? Can she allow the good doctor to fully care for his Citrine?

Livia’s Note: Alta Hensley is having one hot 2016 with so many great releases.  This story is no exception.  We already loved Dr. Norwood from other appearances, but it was wonderful getting to know him better.  I loved the vulnerability of Citrine and how loved she is by the Red Petticoat ‘family’. She is especially close to Charlie and I’m thrilled that the Norwoods make an appearance in Melting Silver as well.

51C2ZWibndLBook Three:

His Little Lapsis by Renee Rose

Blurb:

Once a respectable young governess, Louise Small tumbled from society’s grace after her employer forced himself on her. She wound up at The Red Petticoat playing Little Lapis Lazuli, a submissive who dresses like a girl and offers her bottom up for frequent spankings.

She enjoys her new identity, so far removed from the prim governess she’d been, but she longs for a real daddy—one who is kind and caring, yet willing to administer real discipline. When she spies Culpepper Cove’s Mayor interacting with his young niece, she knows he’s just the sort of man she wants. But his disdain for her and her profession put them in conflict.

Letting go of her little self, she reverts to the proper, fine-mannered governess to win his attention. But at what cost? With her little side squashed, and no hope of being accepted in polite society, she hardly knows who to be or what kind of life to lead. Is being the Mayor’s wife be enough?

Get His Little Lapis here now!

Livia’s Note: I love a good age-play story and Renee Rose certainly knows how to do it right. I enjoyed watching Louise struggle with being ‘big’ versus ‘little’ and how the Mayor tried his best to resist her, but he fell hopelessly in love anyway.  Great read!

51bE1b7UezLBook Four:

Crystal’s Calamity by Stevie Macfarlane

Blurb:

Clementine McKay finds out she’s a lot more than a demure little school teacher from the foothills of the Appalachians when her father gets Gold Fever. The dangerous trip to the Sierra Nevada Mountains not withstanding, she soon learns that despite her small stature and youth, she’s a force to be reckoned with. When tragedy strikes she becomes smarter, stronger and more determined than ever to find her father’s murderer.

As Crystal, the most sought after whore at The Red Petticoat Saloon, she parlays her skills in a way no one else could have. Now, if Jasper Montgomery would only stop snooping around and interfering in her plans she might just get what she wants most… revenge.

Jasper Montgomery lives and gambles in Culpepper Cove for one reason only. It’s his home. Great wealth allows him to do exactly as he pleases and when the dirty little miner’s daughter arrives at The Red Petticoat he takes pity on her. He’ll be her first paying customer, educating the poor virgin on the skills necessary to please a man. In his mind, there was no sense letting a rough miner ruin her. Yes, he would spin a web of passion and pleasure for her that would endear him to her forever.

Never in a million years did he imagine he was the fly and not the spider.

Livia’s Notes: It is so hard to pick, but I think this ranks up there as one of my favorite books so far in the series. Stevie Macfarlane had me laughing out loud more than once throughout this wonderful story with a spitfire heroine and the awesome Jasper.  Don’t miss this one!

Book One:

Jewel’s Gems by Maggie Ryan

51kA-0ctuZL

Blurb:

#1 Best-selling Historical Western author Maggie Ryan brings you the first book in The Red Petticoat series.

The Red Petticoat is not just another whorehouse. This is a place for every painted lady to get her happy ending. Madame Jewel and her ‘gems’ welcome hardworking men to come inside for a home-cooked meal or a few hands of cards. They are invited to listen to a pretty girl sing or watch a show. If a bit of intimate comfort is desired, they are welcome to go upstairs and into the arms of one of the beautiful women wearing the red petticoats. However, refer to its gems as whores and you’ll find yourself tossed out into the street.

This story all begins when Lady Juliette Gardner discovers she has been set up and her reputation ruined. She decides to leave England for good and find her way to the goldfields of California with the hopes of creating her dream and possibly striking it rich.

To Gabriel Vasquez, the hard work and isolation of working his claim is the only way to achieve his dream. When he discovers his new partner is a woman, a very beautiful, very stubborn English woman, he has no problem – except for the fact that she refuses to think of her safety. If she is to be his partner, he will have no hesitation teaching her exactly what happens to naughty, cheeky English ladies.

Gabriel and Jewel will discover that life has room for more than one dream and as they settle themselves in Culpepper Cove. This mining town, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains, will never be the same once Juliette—Madame Jewel—opens The Red Petticoat.

Livia’s Note: I adored how Maggie Ryan got the series started with a bang. From the very first scene of this book I got sucked in and never looked back. She did a great job of showing us how our core main characters got to know each other and came together to end up like a big family.

51596TUF4SL._SY346_Book Two:

Rescuing Ruby Red by Maggie Ryan

Blurb:

From the moment Rebekah McTavish meets the beautiful, cultured Madame Jewel, she has but one dream. She wanted nothing more than to get a job at The Red Petticoat Saloon and don the coveted red petticoat worn by Jewel’s gems. She discovers that getting hired is the easy part—who knew that Jewel’s partner, has a tendency to frown upon gems who break the rules.

Jebidiah Justice spent much of his youth avoiding the little red-head. Even his constant threats to tan her hide did nothing to sway the little pest to better behavior. Now, as the sheriff of Culpepper Cove, avoidance is no longer possible. On the night he catches her red-handed breaking and entering, he has to make a choice. Can he force himself to arrest the girl he remembers or will he lose his heart in rescuing the woman she’s become?

Rebekah becomes Ruby, the newest gem at the saloon, finding a home and a sense of family she craves. The only thing standing between her and her red petticoat is a man who refuses to call her anything but Red and warns her that if she puts so much as a pinky toe on those stairs, the only red thing under her skirts will be the hue he paints across her backside. And, this time, she had a feeling that he isn’t just threatening.

Will the two leave the past behind and make a future together or will their chance of happiness be taken away?

Livia’s Note:  I loved how Red captured the sheriff right out of the gate.  I loved her spunk and fire and I was thrilled that Red continued working at the Red Petticoat even after she got married because she gets to be my character’s best friend in Melting Silver.

Guest Post: Taken by the Enemy by Jennifer Bene

I am so excited to have Jennifer Bene visiting my blog today with an excerpt from her hot new release, Taken by the Enemy.  If you’ve read any of Jennifer’s work before, you know she writes dark, edgy thrillers that take her readers to the very edge of the cliff before pulling us back just in the knick of time.  Truly, reading her books is like riding a roller coaster(I love them, btw), and like me, you’ll be so sad when the ride ends at the end of Taken by the Enemy.  Apparently, lots of other readers feel the same way because the book is burning hot, taking the #1 slot in three Amazon categories right out of the gate.

TakenByTheEnemy

Blurb:

Emmie had spent her life pampered, sheltered, and mostly unaware of just how bad things were inside and outside of the city that she called home – but when reality comes knocking, Emmie must choose between staying and suffering, or running and breaking a promise that could break her heart.

After fleeing the city in the dead of night, Emmie expected the hazards of the forest, but she never thought she would run into real danger or be brutally taken by one of the raiders who had been banished outside the walls. She never thought she would be tied up and forced to submit to their rules, and she never planned to find herself kneeling before their leader – no matter how gorgeous he was.

Lucian had spent most of his adult life figuring out how to protect those banished by the corrupt men inside the city, but when he meets Emmie, he doesn’t just want to keep her safe, he wants to claim her – body and soul. But once he does, and she despises him for it, how can he possibly show her what life can be like when she’s really and truly free, and how can he show her that a good life might be possible with him?

In ‘Taken by the Enemy’ readers are taken on a dark journey of discovery where the truths that Emmie has held close since she was a child are turned inside out, and she discovers that the enemy she’s been raised to fear may just be her salvation. Will she be able to bend to Lucian’s demands for obedience, and the harsh ways in which he enforces them, so she can discover a world where real peace is possible? Or will she turn away from the people who can save them all just to protect her heart?

Excerpt:

He’s coming after me.

Fuck.

Wincing against the twinge in her side, Emmie tore around a tree, trying to backtrack the manic path she had forged while escaping the boar. Nothing seemed familiar until she saw the downed log she had narrowly avoided just minutes before. This time she leapt it, crashing through the leaves on the other side as she ran for her makeshift camp.

If she could just reach her pack, she could grab it and run. She’d lose the blanket, and she could maybe try to return for it later, but she wouldn’t make it far without the water. Skidding to a stop, she caught herself on the ground to turn into the little hideaway she had found to sleep in. Scrambling across the ground, she grabbed her pack, throwing it over her shoulder as she moved to dart through the close branches on the other side – but she never made it.

Lucian’s powerful grip caught the other strap on the pack and he jerked her back, sending her to the ground hard. In an instant, he had tossed her bag to the side and his other hand caught the frantic kick she attempted. “Oh no, not this time, little bird.”

His nose was bloodied, a red smear across his left cheek, and even as he yanked her towards him over the rough earth, she cheered internally that she’d hurt him. With another useless attempt to kick him, she shouted, “Don’t touch me you bastard!”

“Touch you?” He huffed and stopped another rushed attempt to hit him, catching her wrist in his hand. Lucian flipped her to her stomach easily, pulling her arm sharply up behind her

back until her shoulder screamed. Biting her lip, she tried to struggle free, shoving herself forward with the toes of her shoes in the dirt, but his knee landed heavy in the small of her back.

Trapped.

“Little bird…” His voice sounded exasperated with her, and she yelled in frustration as she fought him.

“Stop calling me that!”

He laughed, a low and surprising sound. “Stop fighting then and tell me what I should call you.”

“Fuck off.”

“That’s an odd name.” He wrenched her arm higher onto her back, and tears burned her eyes as she whimpered. “Tell me your name, little bird.”

“Go to hell.” Emmie pressed her forehead into the leaves, and then she felt his breath against the back of her neck.

“You’re going to learn that it’s much easier when you obey me, little bird, and that there are consequences for disrespect.”

Jennifer Bene is a best-selling author of erotic fiction. Her writing has been described by readers as “dark in a way that turns you on”, and she definitely takes that as a compliment! She has a terrible mouth that often gets her in trouble but comes in handy when she’s writing. She loves to write strong female characters and dominant male characters in stories that take readers for a walk on the dark side.

When she’s not attached to a keyboard, she likes to read, drink wine, do yoga, binge on Netflix, and enjoy life with friends/family. She lives in Texas, and no, she doesn’t own a horse or wear a cowboy hat, you’d have better luck finding her on the dance floor downtown. Seriously.

Jennifer would love to hear from you! She does her best to keep readers up to date via social media, and tries to always respond when readers are nice enough to message her!
